hi there

i was asked to plot a graph of lg(ionizaton enery) against no. of electrons removed and from the graph deduced the formula of boron chloride.

Electron removed 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th

inonization energy 800 2400 3700 25000 32800

lg(ionization energy) 2.90 3.38 3.57 4.39 4.52

this the table and the values i got when i found the log of the inoization energies. i know that boron chloride is BCl3 but how do u show them from the graph?

Note the massive jump between the third ionisation energy level and the fourth ionisation energy. This is because you have to remove an electron from a lower, and full shell which requires a lot more energy

ok thank you
