Atomic orbitals

:confused:In the orbitals electrons are in pair.But this concept was proposed later.What are the reasons for electrons being pair in orbitals?
(I am not understanding concept of orbitals.Could you explain me totally from its basic about that.)

referring to spin quantam number an electron has clockwise or anti-clockwise spin. To balance the spin of other they are placed in pairs
