I tried to post in the undergraduate but I guess the problem is too advanced so here it is:

''96 mole% of n-butane and 4 mole% n-pentane vapor exit a distilation column and enter a partial condenser that condenses 60 mol% of this stream into liquid at 40 degrees C.
What is the operating pressure of the condenser and the mol% composition of the liquid as well as the vapor.''

Ok so it's an isothermic process so when the pressure is raised, we go in the liquid phase 100% (total condenser) and when the pressure is lowered we go in vapor 100%(no condensation). The *** problem asks at what pressure you get exactly 60% liquid and 40% vapor. -___________-

Assume these values for partial pressures:

P*butane(40oC) = 2870 mmHg
P*pentane(40oC) = 870 mmHg

Thanks guys!
