1.Assume that you need to prepare 4-methyl-2-pentyne and discover that the only alkynes on hand are acetylene and propyne. You also have available methyl iodide, isopropyl bromide, and 1,1-dichloro-3-methylbutane. Outline an efficient synthesis using any or all of the mentioned reagents to form the 4-methyl-2-pentye.

begin with the 1,1 dichloro-3-methylbutane and mix it with NaNH2 to form an acetylene - this done by two elimination reactions - and convert it into the anion with a third base - the acetylene anion can be alkylated with methyl iodide to give the 4-methyl-2-pentyne
