analysis of heavy/transition methods

Hi there, i was hoping someone knew the preferred method of choice when analysing heavy metals from soil samples, UV/VIS or Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, any help would be fantastic.

I have no idea about the preferred method, since I don't work in that field, but I guess NMR would be useful for determining the different isotopes etc. present.

AAS will do the job but you have to analyse for one metal at a time. These days, I think ICP-OES or ICP-MS is the favoured technique as it is capable of multi elemental analysis.
