Hi everyone

Given that Na (2.6.1) and Cl (2.8.7), what sort of bonding would you expect Na and Cl to have when a chemical reaction takes place. Explain.

* Ionic bonding will take place, metal(Na) and non-metal(Cl).
1 electron from Na will move to Cl. Na becomes Na+ (2.8) and Cl becomes Cl-(2.8.8)

Did i get it right? Appreciate ur comments,tq.

yes, correct:), sodium becomes a cation and the chlorine becomes an anion. an ionic bond can be calculated also by electronegativity differences, and eventually bond through electrostatic attraction.
