1. you are an agricultural geneticist and you suspect that cross pollination between genetically modified food crops and neighboring weeds may have led to the spread of a gene for herbicide resistance to wild plants. how would you go about discovering if this had occurred?

2. you wish to excise a gene from a human chromosome and to incorporate it into a plasma vector. explain why it is important to use the same restriction endonuclease to remove the gene from the chromosome and to open up the plasmid ring.

1. Test cross them to see if any offspring have the resistance

2. Because restriction enzymes cut at specific sequences of bases, so if you don't use the same enzyme then the fragments will not match up (and thus bond)
